The Tribal Solid Waste Education and Assistance Program is focused on providing training and assistance in the field of solid waste for tribal nations and communities. In 2013, ITEP entered into a partnership with the US EPA’s American Indian Environmental Office (AIEO) and the United South and Eastern Tribes (USET) to develop training courses and direct technical assistance activities to assist tribes in creating and implementing solid waste codes and ordinances. The first of these courses is tentatively scheduled to take place in the spring of 2014. Each course will feature both tribal professionals and legal experts who will walk attendees through the process of crafting solid waste codes, as well as getting them implemented. Additionally, those individuals selected to take part in the training courses will have access to legal expert advice as they create their codes.
