San Carlos Apache lobbies to protect lands threatened by copper mining

In June, Rep. Raúl Grijalva, D-Ariz, introduced a bill that would repeal legislation regarding a land-exchange between Resolution Copper and the federal government. In July, Grijalva joined members of the San Carlos Apache Tribe in a 2,000-mile protest journey to Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. Members of the tribe are now circulating a petition to get Oak Flat designated — and protected — as a national monument.
